Public Statement of IECEP Inc. on the Business Meetings During the Official Visit of Philippine President to Washington, D.C.
IECEP welcomes the significant updates of the Presidential Communications Office regarding the Official Visit of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr to Washington, D.C.
As a highlight of the series of business meetings, notably the forum and reception with the US-ASEAN Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce, the need for Philippine-based companies to embrace digital transformation was emphasized "to boost competitiveness in the electronics sector."
According to reports, discussions likewise centered on the potential for electric vehicles and photovoltaic systems, as well as enhanced cooperation on research and development to advance the semiconductor sector in the Philippines.
The President also called for the reauthorization of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program for duty-free privileges on several electronics products exported to the US.
During the Official Visit, President Marcos met with a leading global semiconductor company, to strengthen and expand their operations in the Philippines involving the universities and the academe, which provides electronics engineering students with the "...opportunity to further develop the theory and application of analog circuit design."
Additionally, Open RAN 5G was central to the PH-US Partnership. IECEP through its Chapters has been actively delivering capacity-building activities as subject matter experts. It can be recalled, that the Institute earlier this year signed a Partnership Agreement (PA) with the USAID. These key developments are warmly received by the Electronics Engineering Community and the Institute's General Membership. Indeed, increased investments in the electronics, semiconductor, and telecommunications sectors are expected to create new opportunities for our fellow professionals to showcase Filipino engineering ingenuity.
