Public Statement of IECEP Inc. on the Recent Cybersecurity Incidents Affecting Government Institutions
The Institute enjoins the general membership to be vigilant in their various transactions online and even offline given the various cybersecurity incidents that affected several government social services institutions.
Cybersecurity and Data Privacy are interrelated and ever-evolving fields that necessitate a proactive approach from all stakeholders, including users, institutions both private and the government, as well as from practitioners.
While safeguarding policies are implemented at various levels, deterministic and motivated attacks may still ensue due to weak links and vulnerabilities in systems and applications.
IECEP, as a professional organization of Electronics Professionals, echoes the call of other civil society groups and data governance experts to practice personal cyber hygiene and to continually self-educate on the latest trends in cybersecurity and data privacy.
With this, IECEP having recently established the Cybersecurity Society, a specialty group within the Institute, highlights the role of electronics professionals in cultivating a safe cyberspace for users. IECEP through the Cybersecurity Society shall offer programs geared towards creating communities of practice, supportive of the government's call for more invested professionals in this evolving field and forging partnerships with key stakeholder leaders in this dynamic landscape.
It can be recalled that early on this year, IECEP inked agreements with the USAID and a private cybersecurity company as institutional partner and member respectively as its posturing for a cyber-ready and resilient electronics workforce and more importantly, for the Institute's members as responsible online users.
The Cybersecurity Society of IECEP is open to be tasked as private sector representatives in various Technical Working Groups (TWG) as may be called upon and formed by government agencies affected, responding to, and formulating policies related to Cybersecurity and Data Privacy.
